The
January
Speaker is Carol Grotrian
In 1990, Carol,
who has been quilting 25+ years, began making landscape
quilts. Since then her inspiration has focused
primarily on the coast of Maine and, closer to home, on
the Charles River in Cambridge. In addition to
landscapes, her work also groups around interiors and chairs,
with landscape still playing a key role. More recently she's
been working with indigo and smaller framed pieces.
Carol is
also very well known for her Shibori work, which is an ancient
and intricate technique of dyeing fabric so as to achieve
certain results. Carol's hand-dyed fabrics are used in
many of her quilts. Her work is in many private and
corporate collections including the New England Quilt Museum
collection of contemporary quilts.
She
will talk to the Guild about her work and show many of her
quilts.
